By installing TimSpect from Cind, timber measurement at Smurfit Kappa's operations in Piteå is now being made more efficient. The system has been installed during the autumn and is expected to be put into use during the month of January.
"Smurfit Kappa is a new customer of ours and we are of course very proud that they now choose our system to streamline their operations. It's extra fun that we can also be involved and contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in Piteå", says Marcus Schelin, CEO at Cind.
The Smurfit Kappa Group aims to have 25% lower carbon dioxide emissions by 2020. By using Cind's system for timber measurement, the drivers' waiting times can be reduced and thus also the carbon dioxide emissions.
Cind's system digitizes the manual measurement previously used at Smurfit Kappa in Piteå. The technology uses stereo camera technology, which in the near future will enable fully automated timber measurement without manual manual input. The system is currently installed at around half of the pulp mills in Sweden and there is a great demand internationally as well.
"Cind's system not only gives us a more efficient timber measurement, but it also means that we can now welcome timber transport around the clock, every day of the week. This is something that our suppliers and riders appreciate as planning transport can be made easier. During the project, Cind has shown great flexibility and that their technology is the future", says Stefan Merum, raw materials manager at Smurfit Kappa.
